I measured 4-2A on a light table and my results also fall short of the 27"
from spar centerlines as you mentioned (but only by 1/16 of an inch).
The problem of using the templates provided is that, in most cases, the
paper distorts and therefore it yields poor results. I learned this the
hard way when building the Thorp. As they say, when you're done with your
project you'll have a plane and a half.
I don't know what can be done to fix your problem, short of making new ribs
or using a thicker spar. Also, and please don't laugh, I've been stumped
more than once due to a "cheapo" ruler. You may want to get a "second
opinion" from a different one.
This IS NOT an exact science, and reading some of the early articles
written by Mr. Bowers will prove that point.
Sorry I can't provide a good solution for you.
