Steve,
Not sure what you mean by not having enough metal for
a strong support. I mounted the V's to the fuse
before attaching the welded axle assembly to the V's,
inserted the axle into the V holes, and then rotated
it so that it would line up, i.e., so that the inner
support plates would lie flat against the backside of
the V's. Then I slipped the brake support tube over
the axle so that the outer support plates would line
up with the inner support plates, drilled and bolted.
This worked for me and it is structurally sound.
