Well, the only thing I would worry about is whether there's something
different about the Clevelands that would absolutely require preload.
Both the different wheels I've worked with have snap rings to hold the
bearings in place, so I suppose if the Clevelands didn't have such a
ring they'd probably need some sort of preload. However, looking at the
exploded diagrams in my ACS catalog, they *do* have snap rings. The
only other possibility, then, is that the preload is required so that
the brake/disk relationship can't change. But I've never noticed any
real side-to-side play in my wheels, and can't believe the Clevelands
would be that intolerant.
I'll ask my local EAA Tech Counselor to see if he has any insight on
it....
