There're actually two strips.  A NW/SE about 1200' and and E/W that is about
1600'.  The east/west has no obstacles.  Both are grass, relatively smooth,
and no whoop-de-dos.  Neighbor has one that has a launch pad about half way
down so if you aren't slowed by the time you get to it you find yourself
airborn with little airspeed.
Steel gear on a Flybaby?  Hmmm.  Interesting.  Personally I think I'd prefer
the wood version.  A hard landing would more likely destroy the gear, but
leave the fuselage ok.  Who know's what a steel gear would do the the fuse.
